The former label exec shakes things up with this high energy pop rock offering, themed around Romans 12:2 and “the idea that all of need to be transformed through Christ.” Well produced by veteran arranger and keyboardist Derek Nakamoto, “Revolutionary” covers a wide range of styles and moods, all of them admirably.
The synth work and techno touch of the opening title track give it a fresh feel that continues throughout the project. “Malleable” speaks to the universal problem of living in our own strength, the Rhodes simmering in the background adding nicely to the pop groove. Quiet acoustic ballad “My Getaway” sings longingly of the peace of Presence, Lam’s rich vocals gently pouring out sincere desire. “Breathing More” stands out immediately for its burning disco beat, drilling you with its passionate energy. I especially enjoyed the faith-booster “I’m Not,” a fervent commitment to spiritual standards delivered warmly by Lam. “Miss Everything” covers our significance in Christ with sparkling guitars and a solid choir feel. “Here” is notable for its strong funk flair and its intelligent voice as it speaks to relationship dealings. Hey, we all have ‘em, right?
Larrisa Lam delivers a solid project in “Revolutionary,” one that will build your faith, especially if you enjoy pop rock. ~Review by Kevan Breitinger
Larissa will be speaking on: Putting Purpose Behind Creativity
The driving force behind all creativity should be its purpose. As believers, our purpose is to give glory to God and to see others worship Him. We often get in a creative rut when we don’t know why we’re doing what we’re doing. When our purpose is clear, creativity will flow. We can then begin to build some creative ministries to reach the nations as God commanded us.
