Katie Clemons is an American living in Berlin, Germany. She’s all about creating a greener and simpler life… and who better to tackle topics like decluttering and learning to live with less stuff and more experiences than Katie. After all, she’s had to pick and choose the most important things to bring with her to Germany. (She and her husband moved with only their airplane luggage.) They started tearing down the walls of their 480 square foot apartment before they even had a bed in Europe.
“We created our dream kitchen and discovered that bigger doesn’t always mean better,” Katie says. Her kitchen is only 36 sqare feet.
Katie is known for her Green Christmas projects and simplifying challenges that she shares on her blog, her journal and self expression shop, and her most recent accomplishment – a feat achieved by only .025% of women – earning a pilot’s license.
You can find Katie on Twitter, Etsy, and her personal blog: Making This Home.
Express yourself – from the inside
I have always loved journaling.
When I look back on old journals and diaries, though, I feel frustrated. I filled all these blank pages with how I spent my days & what the weather was like. I described my external events; I didn’t describe *me*.
That’s the hard thing about journaling. We don’t really express who we are inside or what we’re passionate about at a certain point in our lives. We get distracted by the day-to-day and neglect the most fascinating part of us – our internal selves.
These journals & writing products help you capture your inner self so that you can look back and remember who you were & what you craved and believed.
One day, we could all whip out old journals and say, “This is who I was, not just what I was doing. It was *me*.”

All quotes and poems are my own. I follow a theme of “she” instead of “me” and “I” because it’s so much easier to begin writing about ourselves and thinking about ourselves when the attention isn’t actually on us. Imagine standing on a stage in front of a huge crowd. Doesn’t it sound far more comfortable to describe someone other than “me” and “I”?
Journals and related products in this shop give you ideas to reflect on along with plenty of blank writing space. Different books contain different sets of quotations and writing prompts.
Katie’s session is entitled: Living With Less
simply put: Creating a life of meaning without all the stuff.
